Screw The Olympics, Save Da Babies

Ok, I know it’s already been announced that Chicago lost the bid for the Olympics. And seeing as I claim Chicago all day every day, I should be upset, right? Wrong. I realized that most of my friends, except for a few, agree with me. Chicago did not need to host the Olympics. Not now, and not in the near future. And let me tell you why.

I’m sure by now you all have heard about the honor student, who was NOT in a gang, that was beaten to death in Chicago. His death is one of many senseless acts of violence that occur in Chicago every day. This, above all else, is the reason I did not want Chicago to win the bid. All that energy and money, 70 billion dollars so far, that went into winning the bid was misdirected. How about saving the babies? How about putting that money into after school programs and jobs? Hell, here’s an idea: open up a center for underprivileged kids so they can have somewhere safe to be while their parents try to make a living or earn an education? Target single teen mothers so they no longer have an excuse to not finish school. Goddammit, do something. If the President and his wife and Oprah can make all these damn speeches about why Chicago needs the Olympics, and Oprah can open a school in South Africa, why the hell can’t the do something to help in their own back yard? Michelle grew up on the South Side. She knows what it’s really like out there. I am tired of reading in the paper every day that someone else has lost their son, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, cousin to this bullshit! I refuse to sit by and watch the younger generation kill themselves off. Screw the Olympics; save the babies.
